It feels only proper this week to remember a great doctor who died
In many ways a mentor of mine
Even though we never met
Growing up in a family of engineers, farmers, and miners, Rachel Remen’s stories offered me as a young doctor a vision of what humanistic medicine could be, were a source of light, awakening of mystery, encouragement to infuse life with ritual
To this day I fill a bowl with fresh water each morning, send blessings and good wishes out into the world, and light a candle. Rituals I took from reading her books
A guide from beyond when most needed
Deep bow of appreciation for her, her life, her writing, and her work
And as I intimately journey these days with grief and grieve the loss of my beloved daughter may all who loved Rachel be blessed by her memory and find peace throughout their own journey of grief and remembering
